Confusion remains what people attempting to “debate” evolution mean by the term “evolution.”
People had been breeding plants and animals, more or less wittingly, and successfully, for centuries before the Bible was put in writing. There is even an account of gene pool modification in the story of Jacob tending Laban’s flocks in Genesis 30:31 to 31:13. Some people still believe Darwin solved some great mystery. On close inspection Darwin did not.
One thing Darwin did do was add the expression, “natural selection,” to the discussion. It did not require any great leap of intellect however, and over time has proved to fail to do the one thing many people most hoped it would do, explain how life could form from a lifeless universe in the first place. Many people in or from the public school system will repeat that evolution does not explain the origin of life itself, and that explanation is the business of the separate discipline of “abiogenesis.” That juggling of words has led to some people clinging to the notion that any abiogenesis is possible. Notice why evolution failed to explain the origin of life. Even “natural selection,” a component of “evolution,” fails to explain the origin of life.
Why? In order for natural selection to work as Darwin thought there must be a complex array of interdependent systems to gather, store, and utilize energy, and PROTECT and manage reproduction. Before that array of systems exists the cold, cruel lifeless universe just marches relentlessly toward entropy. In order for there to be life there must be dramatic local reversals of entropy. Trivial reversals of entropy like rain clouds cannot create life. We know because everything has been tried.
As any lifeless agency constructs a molecule the larger the molecule gets, the higher the probability the same agency breaks it. Long before anything even remotely resembling life is constructed the probability reaches P=1, or absolute certainty.
Every picture, from every experiment, from every attempt to observe life originating, from every lab, no matter who funds the lab, shows construction does not proceed past a very early stage where it is obvious P=1. That is a wonderful thing about science, it gets the same results every time. There is no picture of construction proceeding even half a percent to the goal, nor can there ever be.
What then is the point to debating evolution? That only demonstrates a stunning ignorance of science and scripture.
