If there were only one blind faith the question would be different. How good is it?
There are however several different blind faiths and not just in various religions.
There is the blind faith lower ranking military must have in their officers.
There is the blind faith many people have in science.
Some people are going to complain that neither of those is really blind faith.
There are people in the military who are going to have a more thoroughly developed worldview than others, even in the lowest ranks. The point here though is that they need not have. All they need to do is follow simple orders and that can be more or less blindly. The military is one of the few places blind faith works much of the time. It doesn’t work all the time because there can be bad leaders, especially on one side or the other.
Some people are stunned and bewildered at the mere suggestion there could be such a thing as blind faith in science. They will say science is based on logic and evidence, and how is it even possible to have blind faith in that? Blind faith in science can happen and obviously has happened because the people who do or do not count as being scientists are chosen by people with no talent for making the choices. Their choices often confirm their mistaken biases. That and there is the difference between science and statistics. Statistics usually have nothing like the strength in argument science ceteris paribus has.
Few people in this age of the internet admit to having any blind faith. They rather pride themselves on their use of critical analysis in all things.
Nevertheless it can be obvious that their “own” critical analysis was copied by rote from some group in which they have blind faith.
Blind faith doesn’t always have to be a bad thing. Most people at some point in their lives must make some decision on the spot without having enough time to research all the options. Most people select a group to join they believe makes good choices and on the spot defer to the choice they believe their group would make. It is not a crime. It is usually not a crime anyway. Lately it has led to some really bad choices.
At one time decades ago there was still an assumption that if there is going to be blind faith in anything it should be blind faith in science. Those people would answer the question in the topic that blind faith in science is best. What could go wrong? When they pretended abiogenesis made any sense they lied so that the blind faith would be in science.
All these decades later it has become obvious that much can go wrong with blind faith in science.
One way to analyze the U.S. presidential election of 2024 is that there were two competing blind faiths, one in science, the other in, difficult to say, let’s say blind faith in the military. Friends of Trump have been struggling for a political identity since the U.S. military left Vietnam. They finally “won” something.
A way to know a person has blind faith is that the person believes something has been “proved” that has not. People who copy their “critical analysis” by rote like to think their “daddy” knows best.
Among the more curious “proofs” is the notion that life begins at conception. It is possible to say it does by definition. If life is defined as the product of conception then that obviously begins at conception, but that is a “circular” definition or “circular” logic. Such “circular” logic is not considered any use. What you will need now is attitude.
If life is defined as the soul it becomes more difficult to prove when that is implanted. The Bible is not clear when a soul is implanted. A scripture often quoted as settling the question is Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” That however is about the existence of something (?) before conception, does not indicate when or where a soul is implanted, and “proves” nothing except that God knows the future, which has been a general assumption anyway.
People who do not believe in any soul do not have that problem. For many of them life begins at conception because the DNA “program” for managing life is set at conception. Computers don’t have souls though, neither does AI.
If your “proof” that life begins at conception is that “the Pope said so” be aware that many people would not count that as a proof.
